Communication preferences

Choose which messages you get, on which channel, and when — from Preferences in the member portal.

  1. Sign in to the member portal.
  2. Open your account menu and choose Preferences.

Two master switches — Email and SMS — turn off the entire channel for non-transactional messages. Turning off a channel disables every category switch for that channel below it.

Below the master switches is a category × channel matrix, so you can be more specific than “all or nothing.” Categories are:

  • Events — invitations, reminders, registration confirmations
  • Billing — invoices, payment reminders
  • Marketing — newsletters and promotions
  • Digest — periodic roundups
  • Reminder — general reminders

Each category has its own Email and SMS switch. A category switch is disabled (greyed out) whenever that channel’s master switch is off.

Receipts, security codes, and other required notices are not optional and are not shown as a toggle — they deliver regardless of your other settings.

Set your timezone so marketing and reminder messages only arrive during daytime hours where you are (default 8am–9pm local time). Your timezone is detected automatically the first time you sign in to the portal; change it here if you move. Transactional messages ignore quiet hours and always deliver.

  • Temporary pause — pause all non-transactional messages for 30 days with one click. You stay subscribed; nothing non-transactional arrives until the pause ends or you resume it yourself.
  • Weekly frequency cap — set a maximum number of non-transactional messages per week. Enter 0 for no limit.
  • If you stop receiving an expected message, check the matching category and channel here before contacting staff.
  • Pausing is temporary and self-service — it is not the same as unsubscribing permanently.
  • Org-specific announcements policy (what counts as “marketing” vs. “reminder,” for example) is set by your organization, not by MemberHero.
